JaBSoc is a student-run society that promotes live music in and around Birmingham and the University. We do our best to provide exciting and new events every year, and are constantly working to provide members with an easy way to discover and engage in the jazz scene, as well as develop their skills as musicians if they feel inclined. Last year we put on 21 events for our members, and this year we intend to do even more! Membership to the JaBSoc gives you a range of benefits:

• Free or heavily discounted entry to ALL JaBSoc gigs. To give you an idea, we hosted around 20 live music events last year alone.
• Discounted entry to selected gigs around Birmingham over the course of the year. Last year, members got discounted entry to see the Esbjorn Svenssen Trio, Arnie Somogyi’s Ambulance, and the Heritage Orchestra amongst a few others.
• The chance to play at our infamous Friday night jam sesions with other members and professional musicians.
• Entry to participate or watch instrumental/vocal masterclasses and workshops hosted throughout the year.
• Email shots detailing all that’s going on in the City of Birmingham and around Uni in terms of Jazz, Blues, and anything else we think you might find cool. Birmingham has one of the best and most diverse jazz scenes in the country, and there are always gigs going on.

And above all else

• The fact that you are part of the most exciting, active, and entertaining society at the University of Birmingham. We were voted ‘Most Outstanding Student Society’ at last years Student Group Awards, and that’s no mean feat given that Birmingham has one of the biggest and best student group communities in the country. In addition, you get what you get with any society – a great way of meeting like-minded people and a way of really adding to your student life.

OK, well most people join because of the free gigs, but the other things can’t help either. Membership costs just £4, lasts for a whole year (that’s 1.36 pence per day), and you get a snazzy card.

How To Join 

Either

•  Find us at a gig. You can join on the door at any of our gigs, and you will pay members entry price for that gig and for the rest of the year.
• Call into the Guild of Students. Find the basement and leave something in our pigeonhole with your contact details, and we’ll get in touch.
