+ Friday 23rd October, 5:30PM - 7PM - Ross Stanley Organ Trio with Andrew Bain & Percy Pursglove at Rush Hour Blues, Symphony Hall Foyer. This week is one not to miss, featuring some extremely talented musicians from Birmingham and beyond. Highly recommended! FREE. + Friday 23rd October, 8PM - THE JABSOC JAM at Joes' Bar, Guild of Students. Tonight is the first JaBSoc gig of term - an open jam session all night featuring our resident DJ Uncle Silverback on the decks. A day of live music at various venues across Brum in order to raise money for charity. Seb Rochford's Polar Bear were nominated for a mercury music prize with their album 'Held on the Tips of Fingers' in 2005, and the appearance of this all-star band is a bit of a treat. This isn't really a straight-ahead jazz gig, check out their myspace for a few ideas of what it'll be like (if you haven't heard the album!). £9, definitely worth the money - and there may be discount for Birmingham Jazz student members too. http://www.myspace.com/sebastianrochford + Monday 26th October, 8PM - Jazz at The White Swan, Grosvenor Street. Same deal as every week - Cobweb collective run night featuring a house band on to start followed by a jam session until last orders. Free entry, go through to the back room. http://www.cobwebcollective.com/ + Wednesday 28th October, 9PM - Sam Wooster Quartet at Jazz Club, The Rainbow. 'Jazz Club' is a monthly night at the Rainbow, Digbeth which promotes alternative cutting edge jazz - normally on the electronic/fusion side of things. Sam Wooster's band was formed whilst he was studying at Birmingham Conservatoire and has a lineup featuring some of Birmingham's finest - check out his myspace. £4 for everyone, turn up early for seats! http://www.myspace.com/samwoosterquartet + Thursday 29th October, 8PM - Joe Morris at the Hare & Hounds, King's Heath. US guitarist Joe Morris is joined by Tony Bevan on sax (UK) and Tony Buck (from Australian band The Necks). £2 in for Birmingham Jazz student members, £8 otherwise! + Thursday 29th October, 8PM - Jazz at The Yardbird. Not sure what's on yet, but it will be good. FREE. + Friday 30th October, 5:30PM - 7PM - Sam Crockett Band at Rush Hour Blues, Symphony Hall Foyer. Another free gig at RHB - more details to follow!
