Just a quick reminder the the second JaBSoc Jam is this Friday in Joes' Bar, at the Guild of Students. The facebook event is here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=168095909397 For anyone that wasn't at the last one, the jam is a chance to get up and play some live music with other society members and jazzers from around the city. Its free entry all night, free to play, and there's always an appreciative audience. For those of you that don't play, it's also a great opportunity to hear some great live music for free. We start at 8 and play through to about 1AM (depending on how busy it gets), but its worth getting there early if you want a seat! As well as that, tomorrow night is the Portico Quartet gig at the CBSO centre in town. If you haven't heard of Portico Quartet already, they're a mercury music prize nominated jazz crossover band that've got really big over the past 12 months, and it should be a really exciting night. Their new album has been produced by John Leckie (Pink Floyd, Muse, Radiohead, etc etc), and you can watch a little bit about him and the band here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OD9Nj01vOw. It starts at 8PM, and its FREE if you have a Birmingham Jazz student card - £20 will get you into every Birmingham Jazz gig for the rest of the academic year for free. If you're interested, mention JaBSoc tomorrow night and you'll be able to buy one. Hope to see you over the weakend! Jon |
